If your daughter wants to play hockey, the NGHA FUNdamentals program is the place for her!
Our FUNdamentals (U7) program is a structured learn-to-play hockey program for girls aged 4 to 6. Our program is designed to help introduce young players to the fundamental skills of hockey while having FUN. Through skating warm-ups, skill-specific stations and games, girls will have the opportunity to develop these skills in a safe and nurturing environment. As well, they will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of teamwork, fair play and cooperation by interacting and playing with teammates.
Players will be sorted into two groups based on age and on hockey/skating experience.
Our FUNdamental program runs from the last weekend of September to the first weekend of March. We have weekly practices scheduled on Saturday afternoon. Our practices focus primarily on basic skill development.
Beginning in December, a second weekly ice time is added on Sundays. Players will get the opportunity to participate in an adapted “mini” hockey game.
There is no ice scheduled over the Christmas holidays.
The registration fee is $299 for the season. Players will also be required to purchase their own equipment. We do, however, provide a pair of hockey socks and a Tim Hortons jersey. Jerseys and socks are handed out at a parents meeting in mid-September. Those that cannot attend the meeting will get their socks and jersey at the first practice.
For information on the mandatory required equipment, please read our NGHA Equipment Policy
Jenna Morais grew up playing hockey in Burlington, Ontario, developing her skills from the Adam level all the way through to Junior. Her passion and dedication to the game led her to Carleton University, where she played as a forward for the Women’s Hockey Team from 2019 to 2024. During her five-year career, she was recognized as the team’s Offensive Player of the Year and was awarded the Alumni Award in her final season for her exceptional community outreach. She also served as an assistant captain, demonstrating strong leadership both on and off the ice.
Jenna has worked every summer at the Carleton Hockey Camps and played a vital role as the team’s Minor Hockey Outreach Coordinator. In this position, she helped build strong connections between the Carleton Ravens and local youth hockey teams, organizing visits, coordinating involvement in practices, and promoting the development of women’s hockey.
Currently in her final year of earning a Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa, Jenna is passionate about combining her love of teaching and hockey. Looking ahead, she plans to stay involved in the game through coaching, with a strong commitment to developing young athletes and fostering inclusive, positive team environments.
Registration for the FUNdamentals program opens in May and the registration link will be shared here.
